Nokia 5800XM – the first Nokia TouchScreen Cellphone
Saturday, October 11th, 2008 by Peter ZhangHey guys,
Today in the first article, I am going to talk about some cellphones. Nokia has been making cellphones for quite a while now, but except for Nokia 7710, none of others are equipped with a touchscreen.
Just a few days ago, Nokia announced its new Nokia 5800 XM, with the new Symbian S60 v5 system. All I got to say is “amazing”. The awesome looking appeaance with the whole new UI, if it isn’t an iPhone-killer, what is it then?
Some general facts about this cellphone:
System: Symbian S60 v5 (supports touch controls)
Screen: 3.2” 640×320 16:9 touchscreen
Network: 3.6Mbps HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS
Camera: 3.2MP Auto-Focus Carl-Zeiss certified lens with dual-LED flashlights
Others:
- Supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
- Comes with BL-5J battery, has 1230mAh
- Allows 35 hours of music playback or 5.6 of games playing time
- 3.5mm earphone jack
- 640×480 / 640×352 30fps record + playback
This phone comes with a guitar pick, which can be also used as a mini stylus. It is such a creative idea that Nokia thought of… haha
Notice that there is a button next to “XPressMusic” on top. It is the Media Shortcut key. Once you press that key, a media shortcut comes up giving you access to various media controls such as play music, games, etc.
The back of the Nokia 5800 is also beautiful. The special wave patterns not only function as a grip holder, and also add some variation to just a solid “blue” color.
It has a 15.5mm of thickness. It might sound thick compared to other phones, but I think it wouldn’t matter much when you actually feel it. At the top you can see the Power button, 3.5mm earphone jack and the microUSB jack.
Nokia 5800 is mainly aimed at the young people’s market, but not entirely suitable for businesspeople’s needs. The price for Nokia 5800 is set at 279 Euro at the moment, that is around 370 US Dollars. Compared to iPhone, it is not that bad.
Below are some videos that talk about the Cellphone controls. Man, aren’t you just excited as I am?

Video 2: Menus, Contacts, Taking Pictures, Surfing Internet, etc.

So that’s it about Nokia 5800. If we ahve any news about the cellphone, we will post it on TechCube. Mean while, stay tuned at Techcube and look for other news!
