Ubuntu 8.10 – Its Finally Here

If you are currently using Ubuntu 8.04, you may upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 straight from your update manager.
However, you might want to do a fresh install, overwriting your current version of Ubuntu (which is what I did).
To do so, just follow these simple steps:
- Back up all your important data before you begin!
- Download Ubuntu 8.10 ISO and burn it to a CD
- Boot Ubuntu 8.10 using the Live CD
- Using the partition manager, delete your current swap and ext3 partitions
- Restart your computer and install Ubuntu from the CD
- You will have an option to install Ubuntu on the unallocated space without affecting your other partitions on OS
Note: While this should not affect your other operating systems and files, please backup all your important documents before you begin! TechCube will not be responsible for any loss of data or any damage to your computer.
Downloading Ubuntu ISO
You have several options to get hold of Ubuntu’s ISO. You can either download it from their list of mirrors, from the torrent network, or request a free DVD that will be shipped to you.
If you have tried downloading Ubuntu’s ISO from their servers, you would probably have realised that its ultra slow (millions of people are probably downloading them too). You may want to try torrenting to see if its faster. If you choose to request for a DVD to be shipped to you, do note that it will take quite a while before you get it.
