Ubuntu will be releasing their new version, Ubuntu 8.10 (codenamed intrepid-ibex) on the 30 October 2008. Meanwhile, you might want to download the beta to see the new and exiting features they have to offer.
For those who don’t already know, Ubuntu is a community developed, Linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need – a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more.
Here are a few of the new features that comes with Ubuntu 8.10:
- GNOME 2.24
- X.Org 7.4
- Linux kernel 2.6.27
- Encrypted private directory
- Guest session
- Network Manager 0.7
- DKMS
- Samba 3.2
- PAM authentication framework
- Totem BBC plugin
Current users of Ubuntu would be able to upgrade their current version by using the Update Manager once the stable version is released.
