Open Flash Chart
Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 by Jonathan LauWant some nice and pretty charts for your website or application? Open Flash Chart provides a fast and simple way to show off your statistics!
As the name suggests, Open Flash Chart works on flash and JavaScript, which is supported by almost every single computer. Of course, managing OFC charts would be easier with server side programming language such as PHP.
OFC reads a JSON data file which tells it how you like your chart to look, as well as the data to display. Just a quick note about JSON. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange format easy for humans to read and write. It is also easy for machines to parse and generate. With that said, the OFC download package includes PHP, Perl, Python and Java classes that will generate and output the data file in JSON format.
Rather than describing how cool it looks, I have added a screenshot which will show you an example of how generated charts will look like. In the actual flash version, hovering over the bars would show you the exact value of the bar.
Aren’t these 3D bar graphs pretty? Colours are configurable for each parts of the graphs!
Of course, not only flash charts are supported. Many other types of charts, such as the radar chart, are also available!
The hot favourite – Pie Chart! There are animations too!
Now that you got an idea of how the charts look like, its time to install it and use it yourself! Installing it is simple. No complicated configurations, no database required whatsoever. Just upload it and you’re ready to start with your first chart.
The online tutorial is quite comprehensive and you should be able to learn how to use these within minutes!
With that, I’ll leave you with the download links and the rest is up to you to explore. Have fun!
