Why aren’t you using GMail!? 10 ways to pursuade your friends to use it
Monday, November 24th, 2008 by Peter ZhangAs Google continues to release new features for GMail, there appears more and more reasons on why you should switch to GMail. Yeah, okay, a lot of people used Hotmail because of MSN Messenger, blah blah blah, but try the 10 reasons hear to pursuade your friends to switch =)
10: Supports POP3
GMail supports POP3, which means that you can easily check your GMail account via Outlook. Hotmail does not support POP3, but Outlook (only Outlook or other Microsoft-made mail products) can access to it.
9: Send your email as another identity
Have multiple e-mail accounts but don’t want to log in another one to send an email? Gmail can do it for you. You can add up to 5 accounts (or more if you pay) to send your email from. Simply validate that another email account is yours (can be from email providers that are not GMail), and you are basically done.
8: Easily check emails at multiple email accounts
Speaking about sending as multiple accounts, you can check emails from them too. As long as they support POP3, GMail can check them for you and download it and show it in your Inbox. It is THAT easy!
7: Almost No ads
The only time you get to see advertisements on GMail is when you open an email, advertisements will appear on the side. They are only text ads, and integrate in the interface so well that you might not notice it sometimes. Other than those pages, there are absolutely no ads!
6: Easy to use and fast interface
There are no stupid “welcome” screens on GMail. When you log in, you will see the inbox directly. At often times, GMail responds in less than half a second. Everything is extremely easy to access, usually within one click.
5: POWERFUL Search
Enter a term, part of a term, a person’s name, part of a person’s name, EVERYTHING! in the search box, and it will return the most accurate results out of all mail providers.
4: G-Talk
Okay, Windows live has Windows Live Messenger, but that is outside the mail system; GMail has it integrated inside the mail system! Simply click on your contact’s name, and you can start chatting with them.
3: NEW! Video + Voice chat
The GMail team has just released one of the newest feature of GMail, which allows you to chat with your webcam and mic on GMail. Yup, you heard me right. Look at this video for more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFGJRfoK9xQ
2: Labs
Not only is the official GMail team releasing new features often, there are still unofficial feature releases from them as well – and they are posted right in the “Labs”. Discover unique features such as Snake (yes, the game), quick links, mouse gestures, you name it!
1: NEW! Themes!
Yup, no more boring classic light blue and white google looking theme for Gmail. In fact, now they have over 20 themes available for you to use. I like Planets the most, you?
BONUS: Awesome Contacts Management
You dont’ really have to worry about adding contacts in GMail – GMail does it for you! Whenever you send or receive an email from a person, GMail will remember it and consider him/her one of the contacts. Then, when you compose an email, you can simply type in the part of the first or last name to find them.
Conclusion
Yeah, GMail is that awesome. So, if you have any question switching to GMail, or if your friend has any, feel free to ask us. We are always here to help you =)
