Windows Live Mail: The New Look

Windows Live Mail has just officially launched its new interface which claims to be 70% faster than the previous interface.

Here’s what to expect if you haven’t already tried the new interface:

• Cleaner and more customizable look
• Up to 70% faster access to your email
• Easier access to your Windows Live Hotmail contacts

And Windows Live Mail finally decided to be like gmail. They are planning to “automatically increase the capacity of your inbox as you need it”. This is scheduled to be available by early 2009. Currently, the limit of my storage is still capped at 5GB. For me, 5GB is more than sufficient unless you really flood your email with large attachments.

My Experience WLM
Being a user of WLM ever since hotmail was started, I must say its a great service after all.
However, after the previous interface upgrade which made use of ajax, I noticed that the server lagged quite badly at times and loading your email is virtually impossible till minutes later. Luckily these did not happen all the time. Users of Windows Live Messenger would appreciate the fact that they get email notifications as long as they are signed in. Another annoyance of WLM is the banner ads they show on the top of each page. They usually take up quite a lot of space, and it “wastes” the space on your screen.

Is the new interface better than the previous one?
YES, I would think so. Its indeed faster as it promised (at least for now).
The look is also much cleaner, though the layout is almost identical.
All in all, the new interface is an in-between of the previous interface’s classic and full version.
