Surfing Internet in the sky on Delta Airlines?

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 by Peter Zhang

Wow, this is huge. I just found out that Delta succesfully implemented Wi-Fi onboard, and you can surf the internet with your Wi-Fi enabled device onboard now!

wifionboard

If you see this logo when you board, that means you are boarding one of the 6 MD-88 aircrafts with Wi-Fi. Pay $9.95 for a flight less than 3 hours, or $12.95 for a flight over 3 hours, and you will be able to surf the internet. (Yeah, I think it is a little bit more expensive too)

I think this is a huge step in the industry, and soon later Virgin America (relying on the same technology of Delta), and every other airlines will have them installed. How cool will that be?

Darn, I wish I can fly the Deltas right now.

I’ve heard of on-board wireless on airplanes before. Previously, Boeing offered WiFi on board many of their planes too. Unfortunately, this service has been discontinued in 2006.
