Windows Live Messenger 2009 Update – 14.0.8050.1202
Saturday, December 20th, 2008 by Peter ZhangThere has been a update for WLM 2009 users recently with build number 14.0.8050.1202. A lot of changes have changed, I reckon. First and foremost – it’s the WLM icon.
I like the idea, but I think the color is a little bit weird. The yellow just doesn’t fit well with blue and the green, in my honest opinion. The logo change is actually fine compared to the icon change in the taskbar. It is a little bit more detailed compared to the last version, so detailed that the “hands” of the buddy is showed, which is really unneccessary.
Next thing, is the login window. They have redesigned it to make it much more cleaner. Except for the login box and the Display Picture, nothing else is on there.
I don’t really sense any difference in the main buddy list, except for some icon changes. There is now a “settings” button for What’s New, which reburies you to login to the Windows Live services in your browser. I got lazy and I didn’t bother changing a thing =P
There are much more scenes / themes now with this version. Most of them really look good. There has also been a slight change over the default theme, too.
Just as I explore the new features of this version, there is a notification that popped up saying someone went online. Surprisingly, there is an update to it as well. There is no more rectangles, now it is rounded! It doesn’t just “roll” in the screen before, instead, it fades in and fades out. Wow!
There are some changes at the chat window as well, although not as obvious.
Like I said, there is a new design for the default scene, so when you talk to an user not using WLM2009, you will see a new artwork. The icons for each actions (Files, Video, etc.) have been removed, which I don’t think was an improvement. Icons help users to find what they look for easily, so why remove them?
I believe that’s all the changes I can find. I like most of the updates, except, perhaps they will need some more work on the icons. Great update, and we look forward to seeing more of them coming!
(A suggestion (If anyone bothers to read this): Include the person’s email in the chat window. People just change thier screenname so often that I sometimes don’t know who they are without looking at their email addresses.)
EDIT: I just found out that here is a signifcant update for those who does’t set English as the main language for non-Unicode programs. Because of some Chiense games I play, I have to set it to Chinese. Before, Segoe UI and some other fonts will not work, and will end up displaying Arial or the font that the person I am chatting to use. It seems that I can use Seogoe UI perfectly with this update. the wlm plus(4.79) it does not work the colours of the name it does not showes to me and there is no signiture suond and this thing make me sad and now i want to back with the old one!!!

Yeah, good point. Although I don’t really care about the colors of display names (I personally find them annoying), with tabbed chat, windows don’t “flash” in the taskbar; WLM Plus icon not displayed in chat window, etc annoys me. Hopefully Patchou or the WLM team can come up something to fix that.

The nickname colouring Plus! has to offer only shows up on those who have Plus! installed. Other normal users will see a string of weird formatting code in the nick. That’s why I never liked this feature in Plus!

I agree, i’ve tried the final release of WLM, which has the same build name, and still no signs of tabbed chatting. I only find plus! useful for it’s tabbed chat and “unlimited nudge”. xP

Hey, do you know whether your ‘Scene’ picture is supposed to display when you choose to use default ‘Scene’. The reason I ask, is because when I don’t have it defaulted. I can see my friends scene pictures on the top of their covo windows, like how the your own picture is on the contacts window. However when I use my default ’scene’ for my convo windows, I only get the theme color.
Are we supposed to see our picture as well on the convo windows?

Unfortunately, you can’t actually change the colour of your display name unless you are using a 3rd party application like Messenger Plus!

If you are willing to get extra engine power, then increasing air flow through the cylinder heads is the answer to your desire. A good set of cylinder heads for sale is the best deal you can ever get. But if there is no good airflow, there will not be as much horse power for all types of engines.
