Windows 7 RC has released!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 by Peter Zhang

Wow, it has been FAST! Beta was released in around December, and only after 5 months its RC is out. Microsoft has just sent the beta program participants an email announcing that Windows 7 RC is available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers already.

“Psh, I am not a MSDN nor a TechNet subscriber. Are you teasing us with your subscription?” Don’t worry, I am not a subscriber either, and so here comes the cool part:

On Tuesday, May 5 (PST), the RC will be available to everyone via our Customer Preview Program.

Yes. 2 more days and you will be able to see a RC version of Windows 7. A lot of different builds were made between 7000 (Beta 1) and this version (which I believe is to be above 7100). Expect a ton of bugfix, improvements, and heck, even new features!

Don’t forget to obtain a copy for yourself at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353271.aspx on May 5!

(Note that you will have to do a fresh install over your Windows installation (yes, even Windows 7) to install the RC. I think it’s worth it though)

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009 by Peter Zhang

The answer is yes! I had a chance to mess with Google Calendar while organizing events for a student club. After spending some time with it, I find that it is actually a really good organizer for events and such.

They MEAN it when they say “Stand back from the doors”!

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 by Peter Zhang

Apparently, someone was playing iBowl (is it?) on iPhone, which requires the player to actually act like they are bowling. This friend here must be too into the game, and didn’t pay attention to the warning message “Stand back from the doors”. The price is obviously very heavy… Good luck finding it =)

Chinese ingenuine cellphone battery kills a man

Monday, February 2nd, 2009 by Peter Zhang

In Guangzhou, China yesterday, a explosion incident has hapened in an electronic store that claims to sell Lenovo produts and other things. The official says that the explosion occurred because of the ingenuine battery. The battery reacted with something within the person, and exploded. The person’s Aorta was hurt, and was killed instantly.

My advice is to avoid using ingenuine battery. Although battery explosion is not that uncommon, I believe this is the first cellphone battery explosion. So, watch out for fake batteries!

Google Chrome Is Out Of Beta!

Friday, December 12th, 2008 by crunchball

Google Chrome has just exited the beta stage!

chrome1

Now, that’s surprisingly fast, as its beta period merely lasted for three months. This is due to the fact that Google received a lot of feedback from the beta users, hence they are able to make improvements. What do you expect? Google is after all, the Internet Giant and who would know more about web browsing than them?

However, I do not really think that this is good news, as Chrome still does not live up to my expectations. Well many of you may argue that the Chrome was designed to be a simple web browser for fuss-free browsing, I think that it lacks many features (and options to adjust some of the more obscure features) and Chrome plugins are still not in sight. I think i will probably ditch Firefox for Chrome, if ever, in the future when Chrome finally becomes a full fledged power browser.

HP & Boston-Power Eco & Cheap Laptop Batteries

Friday, December 12th, 2008 by crunchball

HP & Boston-Power have developed new laptop batteries that do not make use of poisonous metals such as cadmium and mercury. According to the developers, they say that the chemical inside these battery cells chosen do not require these polluting metals found in conventional batteries, which often have unprecise chemical reactions that creates unwanted by products. On top of that, they say that these laptop batteries have more charging cycles and do not need to be replaced as frequently as coventional laptop batteries. These sonata batteries will be used in HP laptops starting early next year.

I think that these batteries are a good idea, as they are really cheap at around USD$40 and deal away with the need of changing pesky, degraded batteries which cost a bomb to change and not to mention the inconveniences that come along with it. On top of that, when these battery cells go mainstream, they will cut down the e-waste in the future as laptop batteries are phased out from the long list of environmental pollutants.

Get your cool GMail Stickers today!

Monday, December 8th, 2008 by Peter Zhang

I was going to login to my GMail account today, but I saw an interesting blog title from the Official GMail Blog that captured my eyes, and it was called “Get your Gmail stickers”. "Wow, I want some stickers”, I thought. So I clicked in for some more information on how to get it.

gmail_stickers_3

I took a look inside, and I found myself so amazed by the stickers. They just look fantastic! Like the GMail itself, the Gmail team made it look so user-friendly as they put what each key means in GMail.

Anyway, it’s useless for me to just talk talk talk… click on this link and see for yourself: http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/

Too bad I need to send a mail to them to get my stickers.. If I am in America, I am definitely ordering one set of those :P
