Youtube blocked in China, AGAIN?

Thursday, March 5th, 2009 by Peter Zhang

Shocking news, once again. Youtube service begins to become unstable yesterday, and as of this morning (GMT+8), it is totally unaccessible. Tonnes of users complain online about this. Foreigners in China have been trying different ways waiting for it to be restored as soon as possible. (How many people are complaining?) Meanwhile, if you really want to visit Youtube, you can try something like Tor or Freegate.

Seriously, aren’t there better ways to censor anti-tibet media other than blocking YouTube?

Chinese ingenuine cellphone battery kills a man

Monday, February 2nd, 2009 by Peter Zhang

In Guangzhou, China yesterday, a explosion incident has hapened in an electronic store that claims to sell Lenovo produts and other things. The official says that the explosion occurred because of the ingenuine battery. The battery reacted with something within the person, and exploded. The person’s Aorta was hurt, and was killed instantly.

My advice is to avoid using ingenuine battery. Although battery explosion is not that uncommon, I believe this is the first cellphone battery explosion. So, watch out for fake batteries!

There’s Wi-Fi everywhere!

Friday, November 7th, 2008 by Peter Zhang

“Dude, that’s some old news.” No, not for China. I am in the Shanghai International Airport Terminal 2 right now, and am surfing on the internet via free wi-fi.

“Wi-Fi” was something introduced to China just a few years ago. There might me Wi-Fi everywhere in countries such as America, Canada, but not China.

This summer, I was at KunMing, YunNan, China. It is a developing city at southwestern China, and there is only one (1) Wi-Fi HotSpot there. Nope, it is not in an Airport, but in a coffee shop opened by an American.

Cellphones that equip with Wi-Fi in other countries (such as Nokia N81, N95, etc.) has their Wi-Fi module took away, or disabled. That’s a very strange law, but that’s the way it works, don’t ask me why. If you want to buy a cellphone in China with Wi-Fi, you have to buy those that are imported directly from foreign countries (the so-called “water goods”)

The government is starting to set up hotspots all around the cities right now. In Beijng, there are hotspots inside “2Huan”, which is the city center area. In Shanghai, you can sometimes see “Free Public Wi-Fi” Networks as well.

It is just so good to see there is Wi-Fi available for the public. Let’s hope this growth continues and never stops =)

I was going to purchase another domain from Godaddy, using the coupon for $2 Domain, but to my disappointment, Godaddy.com is blocked by the Chinese Government!

After a little googling, I found this article: http://www.isaacmao.com/meta/2008/09/why-godaddycom-was-blocked-by-china.html.
