Two new themes: Surreal and Dark Autumn

Thursday, July 9th, 2009 by Peter Zhang

You may have probably noticed that there is a new page – Surreal. Yup, it is a new theme of mine, with a colorful background, some blue accent, and [insert advertisements here]. Also, a new version of Dark Autumn has also been released. Compared to the last version, we have added a colorpicker this time for users to choose their own colors.

Both of these themes are now in the WP Themes Directory. How cool is that, you ask? Well, in WP 2.8, you can now search for “surreal” or “dark autumn” and install it directly from your admin panel. No FTP required.

Enjoy these themes, and check back regularly for more cool updates!

Google Music – offering free legal music to Chinese Internet Users

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 by Peter Zhang

If the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of China is “fake”, “illegal” and those related terms, think again. Google Music was just opened and offered more than a million free, legal songs to Chinese Internet users.

Google Music Homepage

Google is facing a really strong local competitor, Baidu, and Baidu’s special MP3 services especially gave Baidu more than 70% of market share of searching in China. Wanted to take some of its lost market shares back, Google partnered with top100.cn to produce a free platform for everybody.

Most of the songs are 192Kbps… pretty high quality. Some of the English songs, however, I found are really low quality though.

However, note that this music is for China Mainland users only. For those who have a foreign IP, you will see a 403 Forbidden message whenever you try to listen/download songs.

WTFPL? The Super Free Software License

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 by Peter Zhang

I have recently discovered the possibly most-free, permissive software license terms online ever, namely the WTFPL, or in full name, Do What The F You Want To Public License. Oh, on a second note, it is actually GPL Compatitable!

The Full License Terms itself is extremely simple, and is comprised of only one term:

DO WHAT THE F*** YOU WANT TO PUBLIC LICENSE
Version 2, December 2004

Copyright (C) 2004 Sam Hocevar
14 rue de Plaisance, 75014 Paris, France
Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim or modified
copies of this license document, and changing it is allowed as long
as the name is changed.

DO WHAT THE F*** YOU WANT TO PUBLIC LICENSE
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION

0. You just DO WHAT THE F*** YOU WANT TO.

Don’t ask any questions while you apply this license. Everything is free, and as they describe in FAQ, you can do just whatever you want.

By the way, with the WTFPL, can I also…
Oh but yes, of course you can.

But can I…
Yes you can.

Can…
Yes!

See the powerfulness of WTFPL! Actually, I am thinking of starting to put all my future works into WTFPL now. :P
