Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 by Peter Zhang

As I check out Jason Mraz’s videos on YouTube, I was surprised to find that there is a new channel design for YouTubers.

As you can see in the photo, it offers a much more clear design, and a much more efficient/easy way to access to different videos of the user. More javascript, more user friendliness, and most of all, more flexibility.

Changing your channel from the old one to the new one is easy. I’ll show you how the get and customize the new design.

Youtube blocked in China, AGAIN?

Thursday, March 5th, 2009 by Peter Zhang

Shocking news, once again. Youtube service begins to become unstable yesterday, and as of this morning (GMT+8), it is totally unaccessible. Tonnes of users complain online about this. Foreigners in China have been trying different ways waiting for it to be restored as soon as possible. (How many people are complaining?) Meanwhile, if you really want to visit Youtube, you can try something like Tor or Freegate.

Seriously, aren’t there better ways to censor anti-tibet media other than blocking YouTube?

Youtube fmt=22 format

Thursday, December 4th, 2008 by Peter Zhang

In Youtube, there are different format of the videos: Format 6 and Format 18. Format 6 gives you 320×240 size of the video, and Format 18 gives you 480×360. Now, they have just introduced the Format 22, offering you 720p (REALLY) high quality video.

On some videos, there are links to “watch this video in high quality”, but like i said, it is only on some of them. Also, that link only gives you Format 18, but no the new Format 22.

So what should you do if you want to watch 720p videos? In the back of the youtube video link (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a7nIqyXuq0), put &fmt=6, &fmt=18, or &fmt=22 to the end of the link, so that it will look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a7nIqyXuq0&fmt=22

Have fun watching high quality videos!
